Question Dec.1-11 Silent Reading Ninjas

This theme of Silent to the Bone for us is communication it talks about Branwell had to go through many problems during this. He had nothing to do except worry. Worry about about his sister, worry about his family, worry about his friends. His friends worry about him, and he worries about his future. They had to find a way of communicating throughout this story. Using the blinking of the eyes, and everything else. They found a way and it works well. Throughout this whole thing everyone was with him using different ways of communicating with him.

Silent to the Bone 12-1-11

The second theme in Silent to the Bone that we picked is Isolation.  Isolation means to be alone.  We picked this because the whole time Branwell was somewhat left out.  We know that he could see people, but only for a while.  We can relate to this because when we took a test we couldn't talk even after we were all done.

SilentButDeadlyBonelessNarwalls Dec. 1

Another theme of our book is "Power of Silence". One way our book shows this theme is Branwell uses silence to express his feelings about what had happened. Another way our booked showed silence was Branwell showing his power of what he said and what he held in. A third way our book showed silecne was Branwell was in shock in the start of the book and that is what made him silent in the first place. A fourth way how our book showed silence was when he went to the behavioral center and did not talk to any ony besides have his best friend Connor help him speak.

A second theme for our book is adolescence. 4 examples of our book fitting this theme are:
  • Branwell was feeling pain in his heart for dropping Nikki.
  • Branwell was feeling loneliness when he was in the Juvinile Behavioral Center.
  • Branwell's family discovered the actual truth of what happend with the insedence between Branwell and Nikki.
  • Nikki was feeling pain when she was dropped and went into a coma

The Mighty Bookslayers

Our theme for the book is isolation. Isolation means being alone. Branwell relates to this theme because his mom died and his dad got remarried so he doesn't pay attention to Branwell. Branwell also has to take care of Nikki because Vivian does not pay attention to the baby.

The Silent Confessions

The theme of our book is Connor is trieing to get Branwell to talk so things can get back to normal. An example of this theme is Branwell wouldnt talk to any one besides Connor. We think Branwell wasnt talking because he was really mad at Vivian. Also we think Branwell maybe was upset because Vivian was blaming on him. In the end we figured out Vivian was acually pressuring the baby.

11-31-11 Silent Reading Ninjas

5 Questions we would ask Branwell are...........why did you become silent? What really happened that day of the 911 call? Were you forced to watch over Nikki, or did you want to? If you could go back in time to change one thing in your life what would it be and why? Would you change that Morris and Vivian ever meet?

Silent to the Bone 11-29-11

If we could interview Connor we would ask the following questions:
1) How much pressure do you feel like you're under?
2)How did you come up with your techniques of communication?
3)Did you have confidence that Branwell was innocent the entire time?
4)Do you believe that Branwell will give up and talk?
5)Do you think Branwell would do the same thing for you?

         We would ask him number
1) because we would feel very pressured in that situation.
2) because we think they are interesting and unique. We wouldn't be able to discover such an amazing way to communicate with out talking.
3) because we would have doubted Branwell part of the time but believed him for most of the other.
4) because we were really hoping that he would give up and talk sooner or later.
5) because we would question whether or not our friends would do the same if we were going through that adversity.

SilentButDeadlyBonelessNarwalls Nov.29

If we were to interview our main character (Branwell) one question we would ask him would be, "What are your feelings about what is happening?''. A couple other questions would be,"If you could re-do the day of the incident how would it go?", and ,"Did Connor and Margaret help you through these times?" Another  question that,"Do you think you will ever recover?" One last question that we want to ask him is,"Do you ever think that you will be able to face your parents and Nikki again?'' We want to ask him these questions because we want to know more about how Branwell feels and how he is  reacting to this incedent.

The Beastly Purple Penguins November 29, 2011

If we were to interveiw Branwell, we would ask him these 5 questions....

1. Have you had similar difficulties from now when you were younger?

2. How do you feel being in  Behavioral Detention Center?

3.Do you think your relationship will change with nikki once she gets better?

4. How did you feel when you dropped nikki?

5. How did you feel when nikki was born compared to now?

We would ask these questions because. . .We want to know and understand more about Branwell and how he is dealing with things and how he feels about everything that is going on in his life right now.

                                         Your Bloggers,
                              Morgan, Alice, && Ashley. (:

The Mighty Bookslayers

The first question that we would ask would be, why is Branwell being silent because mostly the whloe book he has been silence and were trying to figure out why.  The second question that we would ask would be, do you think Nikki will survive because Nikki got dropped pretty hard.  The third question that we would ask would be, who do you think dropped the baby because we haven't figured out who dropped the baby and we want to read ahead to figure out.  The fourth question that we would ask would be, when is Branwell going to talk because Branwell hasnn't talked yet and we want to know if he talks again what his first word will be. The last question that would ask would be, was Morris involved with the accident because Morris was at the house when the baby went silent.

the silent confessions

1.how does he feel about his baby sister.
2. why wought he talk to any one.
3. why does he trsust conner more then any one else.
4. what would you differntly.
5. what happened the night he dropped his baby sister.

The reason that we would ask these questions is because we don't know the anwsers to them yet.

The Silent Reading Ninjas 11-23-11

Bullyingis a major problem in teenagers lives. If it wasn't like that we would have a utopian socity.  The benifits of over coming this obstacle is you will feel more confident in youself and you will be a stronger person. If you continue and  not over come this you wil slowly fall apart. We just watched a video about bullying and how it affected her and others around her. There is no bullting in our book and hope it dose not hapen.

SilentButDeadlyBonelessNarwalls November 23, 2011

They face the challenge peer pressure. Like we face people telling us to do drugs to drink and all that kind of things we do not want to do. Not doing what people tell you to do when you don't want to do it, and being able to say no. You would not be able to go far in life with people trying to run your own life and you not trying to run it yourself.

Silent to the Bone 11-23-11

Most teenagers face being pressed towards drugs. When you over come the challenge of drugs, you can be confident in your self that you wont be forced to drugs. You can make better choices after the thought of drugs and going through the challenge. If you don't make the right choice, and do drugs, you will be addicted to them and spend thousands of dollars to buy them. Drugs can ruin your life and you just might die as one of the affects. You also might suffer for months at a time.  Here are some more affects of drugs:
  • hallucinations
  • causes serious damage or cancer to almost every organ in your body
  • carbon monoxide, tar, formaldehyde, cyanide and ammonia are all chemicals in tobacco
To find more information on drugs go to:

The Beastly Purple Penguins November 23, 2011

One of the main challenges a teenager faces is being peer pressured in almost their everyday lives. Say no, to get rid of the challenges. Unless it is a good type of peer pressure. We would do what the average teenager would basically do. Examples: Say NO, Tell an adult, igonore it, or walk away from it if possible. If it continues, make sure you contact and adult as soon as possible.

Drama is a challenge teenagers face in their daily lives, because peoples feelings get hurt all the time. A dramatic moment would be if you see someone being bullied. You could stop that by telling a teacher or someone. But if you didn't do anything it would just get even worse. So you should stop bullying.

The Mighty Booslayers

One challenge teenagers face in their daily lives is bullying. One benefit is standing up for yourself. One downfall is letting the bully hurt you.

Silent to the Bone 11-21-11

Our favorite part of the book so far is when Vivian went to Margret's house for dinner. We don't believe all of Vivian's story because she seems mean-spirited and rude. Her wording caused us to believe that she was making up her story. We don't agree with how she stated her story. She seemed to be trying to cover up her story by using Branwell and making up lies.

SilentReadingNinjas 11-21-11

Our groups favorite part in the book was when Morris DitMer came to see Connor after school. When he came to see him, he told Connor that he did know Branwell, and that he was there when Branwell (possibly) dropped Nikki. What he heard was when Branwell yelled " Vivi come here". That was when Vivan told Morris to leave. When Vivian told Morris to leave  you heard on the recording(read) that there was muffled voices in the back ground. Hopefully Morris is telling the truth about what happened that night.

SilentButDeadlyBonelessNarwalls November 21 2011

The favorite part of the book that we think is interesting is when Branwell dropped the baby. The reason why we like this part is cause, It has the most action and is the most dramatic part. We are not trying to be mean at all, but it was the most exciting part so far.It is also excting cause it is introducing us to the begging part of the book and the main part of the story. If you were Branwell, how exactly would you feel at this point?

Beastly Purple Penguins November 21, 2011

Our favorite part in the book so far is when Nikki came out of her coma. It is our favorite part because it is sad when a baby is in a coma. When we read about her coming out of her coma, we thought that it was a very nice moment in the book. It was probably the most best part in the book so far.
                                     Your Bloggers,
                                             Ashley, Alice && Morgan

The Mighty Bookslayers

Our favorite part of the book is trying to figure out who dropped the baby, because we like to try to figure out mysteries. We are divided into two groups some think that Vivian dropped the baby and is blaming Branwell. Others think that Branwell dropped the baby on accident. We are all excited to read ahead and see who dropped the baby.

silent confessions november 21

our favorite part of the book is that Connor cares enough to go see his friend in the behavioral center, because he could just stay at home and play with other people or watch tv. Also because Connor was trying very hard to get Connor to talk to him, but he just would not say anything about the baby or anything sence the baby went into coma.  Connor said he was not going to stop trying to get Branwell  to talk, because he wanted him out of the behavioral center so he could play with him.

SilentReadingNinjas11-17-11

Our group sometimes dissagrees, because...sometimes people in our group, don't get their work acceptibly done. They don't get along, and are off task... but we all try to get along with each other. After all the troubles, we are nice with each other.

SilentButDeadlyBonelessNarwalls November 17, 2017

Our three strenghths are, One: We stay on task, Two: We always get our assignments done, Three: We all interact. Our one weakness is, We do not say enough in our connversations. We are going to disscuss more about our questions we have. We are going to ask questions that are leading on to our actual questions we had to ask.

Silent to the Bone 11-17-11

Our strengths are we get along well.  Our second one is that we are always on task.  Last, but not least we have good and long discussions.  We need to work on the length of our responses.  We feel very confident about our group and we can't wait to read more about Branwell, Nikki, and Connor.

The Beastly Purple Penguins November 17, 2011

Are strengths are that we are all girls and we all get along with each other very well, we all get our work done on time, and we all enjoy our book and want to keep reading it. We need to work on staying on task more often.
                                  Your Bloggers,
                                         Ashley, Alice, && Morgan

The Mighty Bookslayers

Three of our strenghts are: we work together well, we include everyone in our discussions, and we don't get distracted easily.  We work well because everyone takes turns and contributes.  We ask everyone there opinions on the QAR questions.  We all enjoy reading, we stay focused, and we don't have lots of side conversations.  An area we need to work on is our organization because sometimes we get to slowed down with details.

silent confessions

One of our groups strangthes is we all particeapate. Another one of our stangthes ablitlys is that we are able to explain our QAR  questions. The last is that we are enjoying the book. The one weaknes we have is that we sometimes  don't get our homework done.  We are going to fix the weakness by reminding each other when the dead line is.

The Beastly Purlple Penguins November 16, 2011 "text to world."

Nikki might have gotten a case of shaken baby sydrome when she was dropped. If you do not know what shaken baby sydrome is then let us tell you. . .

What is shaken baby syndrome (SBS)?

Shaken baby syndrome refers to a type of brain injury that happens when a baby or a toddler is shaken violently. Shaking can cause bleeding in the brain (subdural hemorrhages) or bleeding in the retinas (retinal hemorrhages). Additional injury happens when the shaken baby is thrown down onto a surface, resulting in shaken impact syndrome.
When a child is shaken, the brain bounces back and forth against the sides of the skull. Infants’ heads are very large and heavy in proportion to the rest of their bodies. This causes swelling, bruising, and bleeding in the brain.
The potential consequences of shaking babies or toddlers are extreme. They include:
  • Brain damage
  • Blindness
  • Hearing loss
  • Speech and learning disorders, including mental retardation
  • Seizures
  • Neck and spinal cord damage, which can lead to motor dysfunction ranging in severity from clumsiness to paralysis
  • Death

In the book Silent to the Bone we found the connections confusing and frustrating because Tina was not warm and loving to Branwell.  Sheylyn can make a connection to Branwell and Tina, because Sheylyn's stepmom takes care of her and bonds with her.  Shelbi can make a connection because she has had a sibling hospitalized and was worried about.  Lexie can make a connection to Branwell almost losing a sibling because she almost lost a sibling. Stevie can make a connection to Nikki having a bad babysitter because he had a bad babysitter.

Silent to the Bone

There are many people who are sent to behavioral centers. One girl we found on the Internet is being sent to a juvenile behavior center for reckless driving, property damage, driving with out a licence, and for the death or injury of several people. Three teens recently escaped from a juvenile center. They were caught and two were sent back to the juvenile behavior center.  Some people seek help for their problems while others stay isolated.

Silent Reading Ninjas 11-15-11

A text to world connection, is that when people are mad at eachother or they dont like someone they will look away and smirk or they will slam a drawer like Connor did. People are human, it's how they react  to eachother throughout times and differences. Sometimes people dont know how to control their anger, so they do things that they might regret doing later on. Have you ever done something that you regreted later on? After you've done something you've probably felt bad and wish that you could've taken it back. Conner probably felt bad about slamming drawer and getting mad at Vivian.

SilentButDeadlyBonelessNarwalls November 15, 2011

Our connnection is when Branwell in the book dropped the baby on it's head. Miranda knows someone who dropped a baby. Here's what happened, Miranda's friend Gabbie, her mother just had a baby boy. It was three months old and Gabbie and her friend were throwing the baby around and it dropped him. The baby did not survive. That was our connection. We were connecting how Brannwell dropped his baby, and how my friend dropped hers.

Text to Text. :)

Our text to text is "Silent to the Bone" and "Wait till Helen Comes." They are both suspenseful and mysterious. And that is why we picked those two. We hope you enjoy our blog posts and will keep reading them.

Silent readers 11/14/11

Silent readers... Silent is in the title and reading is fun. Also because silent is how Branwell is acting right now. We are reading his story about why he is silent. While we read this book we will come to know why and how Branwell became silent. An event from the book is when a lady called 911 to say Branwell dropped his little sister and didnt respond.

Silent but deadly narwhals November 14, 2011

The reson why we picked this title was because, we found a response in the book, the response we found was, "The SILENCES were Branwell's". We decided to choose something that related to the word silence. Someone in our group likes Narwall's, that's where that came from.

the silent confessions nov. 11 2011

the silent confessons, nov. 11 2011 the reason we chose this because silent is in the title and confessions cause maybe in the book as we read. An event would be he dropped his half baby sister. A quote from the book that the babysiter says is " For God's sake". Storm
